Here is a fiddle
tune tabbed out for the dobro. It lays out pretty well
on the dobro, and even though it may not be a tune you are
familiar with, it's easy to hear and pick up at a slower tempo.
"Sandy River Belle" is a good melody for practicing
hammers on the dobro. In the tablature, an "h" is
used to indicate the hammer-on. The note before the "h"
is picked, and you hammer or slap the slide onto the string
at the fret indicated after the "h". Tilt the slide
into the string and only hit the string you are hammering.
"S" is used to indicate slides. Slides can be written
like this: 2s4, where you start with the slide at the 2nd
fret, pick the string at the beat the 2 is written at and
then slide up to the 4th fret at the beat the 4 is written
at; or slides can be written like this: s4, where you would
pick and then immediately slide up a fret to the 4 at the
beat it's written at. The first type of slide should sound
like two separate melody notes that are getting slurred together.
The second type of slide is one melody note that is embellished.
In this tune the slides are all like the 2nd example.
