Wednesday Irish Sessions at Music Folk
Or
How I Got the Blarney Without Kissing the Stone

Having been established almost seven years ago by an Irish musician passing through this fair city, our Irish sessions have become filled with enthusiastic players of all playing levels and styles in the Celtic tradition.

Starting as a once a month journey led by John O'Malley and Mike Mullins, it has become a once a week tradition. Hosted by Jerry Moloney for the past four years, and featuring an ever-growing number of talented participants from the St. Louis Area, the sessions get better and better with each passing week.

Almost all traditional and nontraditional instruments are represented here. Uillean pipes, hammered dulcimers, fiddle, banjo, harp, guitar, flute, penny whistle, mandolin, bones and bodhran are all constants at our sessions.

Beginners are more than welcome at the sessions with Jerry and all the other players eager to help. Any newcomer to the group should check out Jerry's page in Yahoo Groups: stlirishsession before attending. There you will find a pdf file: Help for Newcomers. Also Jerry and some of the session players have a group called SLISP (St. Louis Irish Session Players) that play around town. You just might want to check them out.

So if you would like to practice your jigs and reels, learn a little about Irish culture and a lot about the music. Head on down to Music Folk every Wednesday between 7:00-9:00P.M. Ask for Jerry. You'll have more fun than trying to kiss the Blarney Stone.
