Al Petteway and Amy White perform an exciting blend of contemporary,
Celtic-influenced, original and traditional instrumental music
on acoustic guitars, mandolin, piano, Irish bouzouki, vocals
and world percussion. Their signature sound is heard daily
on NPR and is featured in a number of movies and documentaries.
During their live shows, this husband and wife team captures
the hearts of their audiences with the obvious love they have
for one other and the colorful stories about the places and
events that inspired their music.
Al & Amy first began performing and recording together
as a duo in 1995 and proceeded to win the 1995 Washington
Area Music Association Award (WAMMIE) for "Best New Artist."
Since then, they have become one of the most respected and
well-liked acts in the acoustic music scene. They were Artists
in Residence at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage and
have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the
country.
After releasing an impressive collection of solo recordings,
they recorded Racing Hearts, their first formal duo project.
It was awarded the WAMMIE for best New Age Recording in 2000
and was followed immediately by their second duo recording
Gratitude which won top honors in 2001 including an "Indie"
award in the Acoustic Instrumental category from the Association
for Independent Music. These recordings also led to several
awards from the Maryland State Arts Council for composition
and performance. Between them, they won a grand total of fifty
Wammie awards in the Celtic, Folk, and New Age categories
before relocating to the Asheville, NC area in the winter
of 2002-3.
Al & Amy will perform live at Music Folk on Saturday,
September 25 at 8PM. This intimate concert setting allows
the audience to be up close to the artist and hear every nuance.
An opening act will be announced soon. Tickets are $15 and
are now available. Seating is limited, so reserve tickets
early.
