to Scottish, Irish, and French Canadian Flute

Chris
Norman, a native of Nova Scotia, is regarded as one of the
outstanding flute players of our time. He has played a key
role in reviving and redefining the flute in traditional Canadian
and Scottish music with a breadth and depth of repertoire
that encompasses five centuries of music & numerous musical
genres. An inspiring performer, he is renowned as a soloist
with groups ranging from chamber ensembles and traditional
groups to symphony orchestras, and has toured worldwide with
the Chris Norman Ensemble, Baltimore Consort, Helicon and
Skyedance. His recordings include many on the Dorian label
as well as Hollywood soundtrack recordings on Titanic and
Soldier. As a composer his works range from traditional tunes
that have
entered the collective repertoire, to larger scale works for
chamber groups & orchestras. He is the founder and director
of the renowned Boxwood Festival & Workshop, taking place
each summer in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
Chris
will work with flute players of all levels and backgrounds
to provide an introduction to playing traditional Scottish,
Irish, and French Canadian music on the flute with ideas and
tips to bring the music to life. Topics will include tone
production, rhythm, ornamentation and articulation.
